Marine paint, ferring, and even primers are easily removed. Flash rust
is rarely an obstacle.
Ultra-high pressure waterjetting is now the premier method for aluminum
and steel vessel surface preparation. Whether it's the exterior of
the vessel or the interior ballast, the fuel tanks or other confined
areas, hydroblasting is dust and debris free, introduces no extra
media, and leaves a cleaner surface.
It is a proven fact that water-blasting at 40,000 p.s.i. removes more of the
chlorides and soluble salt content that cause future corrosion than alternative
abrasive blasting methods.
Perhaps most importantly, ever-increasing environmental regulations restricting
the volume of disruptive air born debris and fumes, make clean, safe hydroblasting
the clear choice. Even better for vessel owners, rust inhibitors can also be
added to the hydroblasting water, preventing flash rusting for up to two days.

Limited containment necessary.
Large barges are ideal places to put waterblasting technology
to work. International Paint, and other manufacturers as well, are now
producing
coatings that are specifically designed to
deal with flash rust.
